  1. The first time that they locked eyes was the beginning of their end. It was all fun and games, topsy turvy; like a roller coaster that never stopped going up. It felt like the sun was rising for them and it would never set, like the birds were singing for them and they would never stop.
She was the tide and he was the shore; the universe knew that they would always come back to each other. When they kissed the whole world froze and they were passionately trapped in a beautiful garden of love. The flowers would bloom and the entire sky would radiate their happiness. She shared every inch of her soul with him and he did the same. They were on a never-ending path of light and excitement. Each day was more intimate than the next and the high was like nothing before.
    How long could this last?
His mouth whispered tragic the night the birds stopped singing. Somehow the word beauty slipped off of his lips and he could not stop focusing on the outside. He didn’t realize that the definition of beautiful was her; that the outside wasn’t even a fraction of how lovely she was on the inside.
The ride dropped, and so did they. They were fragile as glass from the start and just like that, shattered. As he picked up the pieces he couldn’t stop thinking of the bad, the downs, the tears. But every shard of that glass reminded him of why they loved eachother, why they love eachother. He looked down at his blood stained hands and realized his mistake, desperately hoping it wasn’t too late. Every part of her was completely and utterly extraordinary.
They rebuilt their love on a stronger foundation and accepted that even though there would be permanent scars, the ups were better than the downs. Ane that anything hate can do, love can certainly do better.

    1. I saw the review and was blown away at how well composed it is. I like your genuine, honest writing style and truly wouldn’t change a thing. After reading that, I want to watch the movie…but I’m scared it will be too violent. On a scale of 1-10, how likely am I to have nightmares or haunting memories from the scenes of violence?

      1. Thank you so much for the feedback! I appreciate it. As far as the violence and haunting imagery, this film is hard to stomach at times because some of the things that happen to her are so tragic and/or horrific. It’s definitely worth a watch, but I would proceed with caution if you are a little squeamish.

  2. Alter

She gets up in the morning with confidence exuding from every pore. Delighted in what they day might bring, she puts together a bold outfit without a hint of hesitation. A disapproving look would only bring her joy, as she embraces the very things about her that society might reject. There’s no need to take a final glance in the mirror before heading out, appearance the least of her concern.

Unplagued by fear or anxiety, every interaction with another human being is effortless. She looks for any opportunity to make conversation, though the people are drawn to her like magnets. Never afraid to speak her mind, never doubting, never crippled by the fear of what all could go wrong. She doesn’t live for those moments, she lives for this one. She lives for now. Never worrying what the next moment could bring, she lives fearlessly.

Spreading laughter and optimism wherever she goes, nothing could challenge her morale, for she knows who she is, she likes who she is, and she wouldn’t change a thing.

    1. Oh lord, this was just refreshing. Even though I loved the whole thing, my favourite line is “a bold outfit with a Hint of Hesitation.” This is a perfect depiction of the confidence I am trying to acquire in my life and I couldn’t have expressed that as eloquently as you have here. Thanks very much for sharing!

  3. Hi friends!

Grin and bear with me as I relate my adventures today at our local HUGE mall -Metrotown! So I began my foray at 2pm after a breakfast of coffee and chocolate😊- I know…. I know don’t go shopping on an empty stomach. I parked in my normal spot underground so as to not get lost( Sarah Doi😊). Once in the mall have to get my bearings. Located the clothing shop where I dropped off pants to be hemmed. On my way to the food court to get something to eat but pass by a bedding shop and stop in to buy a blanket as the one I washed this morning completely shredded to pieces?! Also purchased a new dulcet cover and shams – it’s spring and my heavy bedspread on my bed is over 10 years old and of course the bedroom needs a little “springing up”! Got the duvet and shams for half price! I leave my purchases in the store as they are heavy and will return to pick up after my other errands. Oh yes I did have a tasty lunch of Pho seafood soup at the Thai place in the food fair and a water and then a cold drink from Starbucks. I am now fortified to continue on. I pick up a new remote for my TV at Shaw my cable provider. I go next door to the Italian bakery Manzano and purchase some sweet treats and a loaf of wonderful freshly made bread. Now for the return trip back to the car and on the way pick up my bedding purchases. I also buy some chocolate at Purdys Chocolates(always can use as gifts or?). Then I wander over to the Coach store and next thing you know I am buying a lovely spring wallet for my Mothers’ Day gift to myself! Dealt with a lovely young man named Trystan😊. Back to the car to drop off all my purchases as I realize I needed another couple of items from the bakery! Back I go to the mall but decide to stop at Chapters/ Indigo to spend a $10 gift card. Many $$ later I have purchased not only a book but several other items. While in the book store I realize I really need to to go to the bathroom and I am fading fast as the store is so hot and my feet hurt! Oh I won’t even go into detail about trying to load my Starbucks card and their rewards card to my phone😳! Thanks to Andy and Pria for their patience as they helped this mama! But never successfully completed this task as I did not know my gmail password! GRIN AND BEAR WITH ME I AM NEARLY DONE. Now I need to get to the bakery again to purchase an the item I forgot to buy! My feet hurt …. I am hot and I am so done BUT I am disoriented and don’t know if I am heading in the right direction to the bakery. I ask someone and praise The Lord It is just ahead of me. I make my bakery purchases and now because I am HOT and because I am TIRED and because my feet HURT and because I had it with being in the mall( did I say I hate shopping at the mall?) I head outside to walk back to the entrance without having to walk through the mall.

I stopped at the local grocery store to pick up a few items and entered my underground parking at 6:37pm. I unpacked my groceries and immediately had a glass of wine😊.

To those of you who have read this whole epistle – thanks for bearing with me-did I say I hate mall shopping?!

  4. Thanks for creating such a great open space for budding writers to share their work! I’ve recently tried different short stories + found I really enjoyed crafting them for new readers. Wasn’t sure what particular genres you like in particular, but I’ve added the page link below if any might tickle your fancy. I’d love to hear what you think of them in each story’s comment section!

  5. Ode to a River Valley

There is a place that has captured me
A place of beauty as far as the eyes can see
There is a place that has set me free
Summer breeze whispers in tree after tree

    Myriads of hues
    Greens, yellows and blues
    Aspens, poplars, pines and spruce
Wild flowers galore fragrant and fresh
Lush is the foliage as a flowery mesh

There is a place that has captured me
Body, heart, soul setting me free
There is a place that has made me see
Treasures of creation, that inspires me.

Can you feel it…as if under its spell?
Filling your heart from its infinite well
Kissing your cheeks, the warm gentle sun
Wind in your hair as you stroll, walk or run

There is a place that’s a haven for me
Spring, fall or summer, it sets me free
There is a place that warms my heart
Even in winter it plays its part
There is a place that has captured me
Till the end of all time it shall set me free.

    1. This poem is so good it’s on fire! My favourite line is:
“Kissing your cheeks, the warm gentle sun
Wind in your hair as you stroll, walk or run.”
Keep up the great writing, Maxine.
